Abraham, religious leader and the first of the three legendary biblical patriarchs, brought to life in an opera for the very first time. For his opera, Daniel Schnyder has created a soundscape in which classical music merges with jazz and global sounds. European concert traditions meet oriental musical cadences. Old instruments such as the oud and the ney meet contemporary electric pianos and saxophones and are integrated into the great orchestral sound that makes up one of the main ingredients of opera. The remaining ingredients – a full orchestra, a large choir, opulent costumes and inspiring stage sets are of course also all present, bringing to ‘’Abraham“ a passion and timbre that transforms the story of the creation of the three monotheist religions into a modern day narrative. The world premiere of ‘’Abraham“ is the grand finale of this year’s düsseldorf festival!.
