Barbaroque Baroque – Quatuor Barbaroque

17. September 8:30 pm

Baroque music – an urban sound with a barrel organ
Handel, Bach or Couperin with a barrel organ, double bass, salterio and bandoneon?  Yes, that’s possible. At any rate, when the mechanical organ player Patrick Mathis, double bass player Didier Capeille, Gilles Raymond on the salterio and Alain Territo on the bandoneon get together and combine baroque music with the “orgue de barbarie“ (which is French for barrel organ). Then the aristocracy of music suddenly takes on a sound that feels urban and down-to-earth. And this actually involves real work. For the Handel organ concert alone, Mathis had to punch around 20,000 holes in the cards for his mechanical organ.
