Odysseus returns home after 20 years of wandering into the arms of Penelope. Claudio Monteverdi’s opera ‘Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria’ serves Yaron Lifschitz and the acclaimed Circa Ensemble as the foundation for a powerfully theatrical narrative. Orbiting timelessly over themes of exile and salvation; loyalty and longing for home, and by linking this ancient legend with Primo Levi’s testimony as a Holocaust survivor. Mythology and history draw new energies from the powerful physicality of the dancers and artists. This is how great opera marries with the thrill of the circus world.
