They are a legend: the Master Drummers of Burundi have been one of the world’s leading drum ensembles for decades. They are part of a tradition that has been upheld in the tiny central African country for thousands of years. Their concerts are spectacular, gloriously colourful, energy-filled events of primordial intensity. In their bright costumes the twelve batimbos, who are also remarkable dancers and artistes, create a thunderous rhythmic inferno. And while they sing, dance, jump and use their instruments to fight imaginary battles, audiences can hardly contain their enthusiasm.
