Dance in a virtual world. In Pixel, the world appears to be completely elastic – walls grow, waves roll and the stage floor breaks apart. Eleven dancers, hip hop performers and circus artists, move around in this space that is full of optical illusions and indeed the performers link up with the digital projections. The performers’ bodies become part of the illusion – as if the pixel has ultimately taken possession of them and transformed them into flexible mutants. And we then ask ourselves the same question that brought together the choreographer, Mourad Merzouki, and the Compagnie’s digital artists, Adrien M / Claire B: are we still able to make a distinction between reality and the virtual world?
