Old and new songs. She was at Montreux and at Glastonbury. She’s won numerous prizes, recorded six albums in ten years and her concerts unfailingly sell out. Sophie Hunger, a singer-songwriter from Switzerland – and a star? You might say that. But it doesn’t fully apply and certainly not in terms of mass audiences. This is because her music, which is tinged with melancholy and stylistically somewhere between jazz, rock, punk and chanson, is hard-headed and defiant. And her poetic texts, whether in German, French or English, have an enigmatic and subversive touch. In Düsseldorf she’ll be interpreting old and new songs in a reduced and very special set-up.
