A dedication to the fascination of the night: first soothing sounds surround us, dusk still holds sway, but then things become ecstatic. Driving rhythms and brutal electronics whirl around us, dancers conquer the church interior with improvised steps. When the drive eventually loses tempo, Arnold Schönberg’s string quartet ‘Verklärte Nacht’ (Transfigured Night) takes over the stage in the form of a choreography by Wubkje Kuindersma. (Late) Romantic? Yes! But not just in that. Schönbergs homage to a love elevated above all tradition could not appear more unconventional and, in the true sense of the word, more moving.
