If we had to pinpoint a home for this trio it would be where Italy, France and Switzerland meet, up on Mont Dolent. The accordionist Luciano Biondini, Michel Godard on bass and tuba and the percussionist Lucas Niggli are certainly high flyers. But their playing resists territorial and stylistic classification. When they create music together they blur the boundaries between ancient music and new music, imaginary folklore and jazz-inspired improvisation. Their work is both Alpine and Mediterranean, refined and powerful, exotic and folksy. But it’s always music from the soul – full of energy, poetry and subtle humour.
