What is the relationship between pop and classical music? Can electronic sounds be reproduced on stringed instruments? The Scottish arranger and violist Ian Anderson answers these and other questions with a wealth of invention and a touch of magic. In the past he has successfully arranged Björk’s album Homogenic for strings and in 2018 under his direction the string ensemble Wooden Elephant will perform an entirely new arrangement of Radiohead’s album Kid A. To make this work they will also use milk frothers, irons, chains of bath plugs and children’s trumpets – objects you don’t normally expect to find anywhere near an old Italian violin.
