Krankenakte Robert Schumann – Matthias Brandt & Jens Thomas

15.9., 5 & 8 pm

Following a suicide attempt, Robert Schumann, a genius of a composer but also a complex artistic personality driven by phases of depression and states of total nervous exhaustion, spent the rest of his life in a sanatorium in Bonn. His patient file provided the basis for Peter Härtling’s novel ‘Schumann’s Shadow’ – and this in turn was the inspiration for Matthias Brandt and Jens Thomas’s new project. As always, nothing seems to be fixed or practiced as a routine. While Brandt tugs at the audience’s nerves, Thomas provides suitable improvisations at the piano – a fascinating interplay of texts and sounds that juggles with the depths of the characters’ souls.
