The artist couple Nawal and Abou Lagraa have been working with the company La Baraka since 2007. For "Premier(s) Pas", their first double bill choreographed separately from one another they have cast nine dancers from a wide range of social and artistic backgrounds. They come from ballet, modern dance or street dance in the banlieues. What they all have in common is that, despite their great skill and talent, they have never had an engagement before. In the first part, Abou Lagraa's choreography to Bach's violin sonatas in long yellow costumes with intense encounters leads into abstract, poetic realms of expression and sets spiritual accents of tranquillity. In the second part, on the other hand, to music by Olivier Innocenti after Samuel Barber's "Agnus Dei", Nawal Lagraa unleashes the personalities and temperaments of her performers on each other with all their vital kinetic energy and then brings them back together in a reconciliatory way. A battle from which everyone emerges victorious.
