After the cancellation of the world premiere of the music theatre production "O ihr Menschen" in the last festival year due to corona, we are very pleased to be able to stage it after all with generous funding from the Neustart Kultur programme of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and with the help of the Landesmusikrat NRW and the state capital Düsseldorf. The eventful life of Ludwig van Beethoven, the jubilarian of the year 2020, was marked by crises, of which the famous "Heiligenstadt Testament" bears witness, in which he desperately rebels against the deafness threatening him. Beethoven defied his fate with restless creativity. This exemplary path from despair to hope was the inspiration and common thread for the libretto by actress Maria Hartmann and the composition by Wolfgang Abendroth. Four soloists, a large choir, children's choir and the youth company of the tanzhaus nrw, spectacularly staged by Nicola Glück and musically directed by Wolfgang Abendroth as well as a video scenography revolve around Beethoven's genius and his universally valid life theme.
A production of the Düsseldorf Festival! in co-production with Johannes Church City Church Düsseldorf.
With the kind support of the Haubrich Foundation, the City of Düsseldorf, the Music Council of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
